Welcome. Why not read my userinfo and find out a bit more? The content of this journal is fairly random but my interests list should give you some idea of what I tend to go on about.
And just to make it worth your while, here's a photo of kittens.

If you don't like kittens, go and stick your head up a dead bear's bum. *^w^*

Ceara.
Anyway, I'm sure none of this is convincing you to actually add me to your friends list. But it would be nice, in any case. I do enjoy your writing, and also I find I can relate to you (a sentence which I hope I phrased elegantly enough to not sound disturbing). This is probably why I continued to read your journal for so long. We share many tastes, and also I was noting your career choice and reasons for choosing it with interest, as I'm in sort of the same boat. You see, you chose teaching because you had no real alternative and weren't all that thrilled with it to start. I have also made the same choice, except I've made it right off the bat, as I'm only 18. I reviewed my options and looked at my skills (which were useless: art, reading, writing), and said, "Well, I guess there's nothing for it but to teach". I'm also less than enthused about it. I'm not a big fan of children and young adults, and I'm not a big fan of being in a position of authority, or of talking in front of more than four people at a time, when it comes right down to it. I drew a little encouragement from the fact that you seemed to be warming to the field...Anyway. I'll understand completely if you choose not to add me to your friends list. Having a complete stranger reading up on your life like it was a web comic must be a weird feeling at best... But then again this is a livejournal, and they're out there for people to read, right? I honestly have no idea of the etiquette here. Thanks, Aurora.
I'm happy to add you to the list. I'd also advise you not to resign yourself to teaching so early - go to university first and see what you find there. Take languages, look into work in foreign countries, get computer skills; get an apprenticeship and be a plumber, you can rake it in as a plumber, retire early and write novels! I would be a plumber except I hate touching cold wet slimy things. If you're really 'not a big fan of children and young adults,' don't go there, it will be a rotten experience for you and them. (Then again, your feelings may change as you get older. I am definitely a lot keener on children than I was a few years ago. Having some distance from them in age really helps.)
Rather than go directly into teacher training, anyway, I'd strongly advise you to get a degree in something else first (preferably something you like!). It will mean you can command a higher rate of pay as a teacher (at least it does in my country and I hope it does in others) and will be more desirable to your first-choice schools. It also gives you time to mature a little more, expand your horizons, review your options, and hang out in a quad wearing really silly clothes.
Truth be told, I have trouble remembering what I was doing 4 years ago.
Want to be friends?
I use that expression quite often, yet have not the faintest idea what a bippy is.
Mind if I add you? I as considering your Blog to a blog roll on my blog But if your ot gonna be using that... ?? I don't mind adding you here.
So I looked at your user info, a fan of neopets too. You're interesting :)
Yeah, that was me. Don't tell anyone *^.^*
After all, you're friends with
1. You're from New Zealand and that's pretty close to Australia, or was last time I looked. I love reading journals of people from the antipodes. All these people talking about Summer heat and going to the beach is just too depressing for words at the moment.
2. You've done an MA in English. I'm just about to finish a BA in Professional Writing (which I started ten years ago... longish story).
3. You care about English, grammar and probably puncuation - and so do I.
4. You're a teacher and I'm planning on becoming a teacher. I'd be fascinated to read about your experiences in that particular field.
I fully realise that I have probably terrified you beyond belief with this list of reasons, so I should stop now, although I have just thought of a fifth and final point.
5. Unless you're lying in your user info, you're only 363 days younger than me and I love reading the journals of people who are a similar age to me.
I shall leave you in peace now. :)
Gah, I don't know how to do this w/o sounding like an ass =__=;
Oh, well. You probably don't remember me anyway but may I friend your lj? ^_^;
